A senior session at Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas is nothing short of breathtaking. It's the perfect location for adventurous and stylish senior pictures. Mackenzie chose this beautiful desert backdrop for her session and absolutely rocked it! I'll be sharing some of my favorite shots from this session, along with tips on how to prepare for your own Red Rock Canyon senior photoshoot!

Las Vegas might be famous for the Strip, but Red Rock offers a totally different vibe-natural, adventurous, and timeless. Here's why it's one of my favorite spots for senior sessions:

Senior Spotlight: Mackenzie


Mackenzie's senior pictures turned out gorgeous! She had two outfits, a flowy white dress, and a jean skirt with the cutest cowgirl boots! Her outfits complemented the desert tones beautifully. One of my favorite shots from this session was her leaning against the sandstone. The shot consists of sandstone, greenery, and the beautiful mountain range in the back... it's chef's kiss!

Best Colors for the Desert

Stick to earthy and neutral tones that contrast beautifully with the red rocks:

  • Warm neutrals like beige, ivory, rust, or taupe
  • Earthy tones like olive green, brown, creams
  • Solid colors

Pro Tip: Avoid busy patterns or neon colors-they can be distracting against the natural background.

How to Prepare for Your Red Rock Canyon Senior Session


  • Plan for the Best Time of Day- The best lighting happens during golden hour. The soft warm light enhances your skin tone and gives your photos that dreamy look. As your photographer I will help you pick the best time!


  • Wear Comfortable Shoes- The desert terrain is rocky and uneven, so bring comfy walking shoes and swap them for your stylish ones during the shoot.


  • Stay Hydrated & Bring Essentials- The heat can be intense in Vegas, and Red Rock can get cold in the winter months! Pack water, chapstick, lipgloss, hair brush, a jacket, and anything else you might need!


  • Pay Attention to Red Rock Rules & Regulations- Red Rock canyon requires reservations from Oct 1-May 31st and the entrance fee is currently $20/vehicle. It is a one way scenic drive, so make sure you have plenty of gas and time!


  • Embrace the Wind & Natural Elements- The desert can get windy, which can create stunning, natural movement in your hair and outfit. Instead of fighting it, embrace it for a natural effortless look!


  • Relax & Have Fun! - The best photos happen when you're feeling confident and enjoying the moment. Don't stress about posing-I'll guide you every step of the way!
